Dear friends, colleagues, and advocates,
Due to the ongoing government shutdown, military families face uncertainty and delays regarding their paychecks. To support the military community, we have put together a list of resources that can help during this stressful time. Please share widely.
No-Interest Loans
Some financial institutions are offering no-interest loans to their members to cover a possible missed or delayed paycheck, including Navy Federal Credit Union and USAA. Check with your financial institution to see if they are offering a special program to support military families.
Groceries
Military STAR card holders can purchase groceries at the commissary until October 31 with no payment and no interest for three months.
Diapers
The National Diaper Bank Network connects and supports more than 240 community-based diaper banks across the U.S. that collect, store, and distribute free diapers to struggling families. Find a diaper bank near you: https://nationaldiaperbanknetwork.org/member-directory/
Infant Formula
Families who are out or running out of formula can reach out to:
-
Their child’s doctor
-
Local churches and food banks
-
Community Facebook groups
-
Diaper banks
-
Free Formula Exchange
-
Infant formula companies, such as Enfamil and Similac, for free samples
Other Financial Hardship Resources
Families facing financial hardship can also reach out to their Service Aid Society to apply for a grant or a no-interest loan.
